The Big Question: What Separates Startups & Small Biz?

I’ve always been seduced by the worlds of small business and startups since I was 13 years old. Learning about them, exploring their possibilities, and absorbing every bit of information that I could find has been a passion of mine for many years. Throughout my teenage years, I read magazines and books about them, fantasizing about how one day I too could own a startup or run an innovative small business.

It’s been quite a journey coming from the dreamer to the doer. With much dedication, hard work, and countless sleepless nights, I have finally made progress toward making my dreams become reality. Even though there are still miles ahead before completely achieving my goals, it’s incredibly inspiring to now be in a place where all those imaginations can start turning into tangible products or services.

One thing I noticed throughout my years, was that the books and documentaries never clearly defined that there was ever any true separation between what a startup was and a small business was.

So let me take a stab at it and break down the differences for you in this article.
